What is Consent Order Online?

A Consent Order is the court order that makes your financial agreement legally binding after divorce. Without one, financial claims between you and your former spouse generally stay open, even after the Final Order. A judge reviews the order on paper and, if it looks fair, seals it.

DivorceCompanion Consent Order Online is a guided web tool for drafting that order yourself. Rather than adapting a long court template clause by clause, you describe what you have agreed (who keeps the house, how pensions are dealt with, whether there is a lump sum or maintenance, and whether you want a clean break) and the tool turns your answers into court-structured wording. It is available at divorcecompanion.co.uk.

What Consent Order Online includes

🏠

Property

Sale of the family home, transfer to one party, or deferred sale (Mesher or Martin orders), with mortgage, indemnity and continuing-charges wording.

🏦

Pensions

Pension sharing, offsetting and earmarking, plus mutual renunciation where neither party claims on the other's pension.

💷

Lump sums and maintenance

Lump sum payments and spousal periodical payments, including duration, indexation and when payments end.

✂

Clean break

Clauses dismissing future capital and income claims, so neither of you can come back for more later.

🤖

AI Assisted Review

Checks your draft for missing information, inconsistencies (such as percentages that don't add up to 100%) and common drafting issues. Two reviews are free before you pay.

📄

Court-ready Word document

Laid out in the structure of the HMCTS Financial Remedy Order (Order 2.1), with signature blocks and the legal-advice statement for anyone not using a solicitor.

Edits are unlimited, so if the court comes back asking for changes you can reopen your draft, amend it and download a revised version. The tool uses current terminology throughout: Applicant, Conditional Order and Final Order (not Petitioner, Decree Nisi or Decree Absolute).

Who should use Consent Order Online?

Consent Order Online is designed for people who:

It is not a substitute for legal advice. If you don't yet agree on the split, or your finances involve defined benefit or high-value pensions, business interests, trusts or overseas assets, a one-off session with a family solicitor is often worth it before you file. Resolution (resolution.org.uk) lists family solicitors who offer fixed-fee advice.

Common questions

Can I do a Consent Order online without a solicitor?

Yes. For a broadly agreed case you can prepare a Consent Order yourself and file it with Form D81 and the £62 court fee. Many people do this as Litigants in Person. If your finances are complex, one-off advice from a solicitor may still be worthwhile.

When can I submit it?

You can draft it at any time, but the court can only make the order once the Conditional Order has been granted. Most people draft while waiting, so the order is ready to file as soon as they can.

Will the court accept it?

The judge decides. Courts generally only query an agreed order when the terms look clearly unfair or something is missing or inconsistent, and they usually ask for clarification or amendments rather than rejecting it outright. See why Consent Orders get rejected for the common reasons.
